Obituary

After a three-year battle with ALS Alvin Randell "Randy" Tate, 69, passed away peacefully at his home in Tampa, Florida. Randy was born in Baxter, Tennessee and moved to Tampa, Florida with his family when he was eight years old. He graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1967. After graduation, Randy worked in the family construction business before a life-long career selling life insurance with the Independent Life Insurance Agency.

He was one of four children born to the late Grady and Opal Tate and was the deeply loved husband of Deborah Tate for over 46 years, who preceded him in death earlier this year.

Randy will forever be remembered by his brother Larry Tate, loving sister Jan Ennis, beloved children Jeff Tate (Amy Lee), Heather Alvarez (Rafael) and Bobby Tate (Ashley), treasured grandchildren Kaylin Tate, Annlee Tate, Ashton Windham, Maryella Tate, Elianna Tate, Elijah Alvarez, Juliana Alvarez, Knox Tate, and Lulabeth Tate, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.

Randy loved sports of any kind, but especially football, baseball, basketball and NASCAR. He loved laughing, fishing, being with his family, grilling out—he was known for his world-famous ribs, and enjoyed every moment he could with friends. Randy touched the lives of many people with his kindness, gentle smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at 11am at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL. A graveside service will also be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Griffith Creek Cemetery, Highway 108, Whitwell, TN.

The family requests in leu of flowers for donations to be made to The ALS Association Florida Chapter, Inc., 3242 Parkside Center Circle, Tampa, FL 33619.
