Obituary

Mr. Anthony "Tony" Karas, 95, of Tampa passed away April 30, 2016.Anthony was born in Greece, where he became a private military body guard for General Van Fleet during the Greek Civil War. He came to the United States in 1951 and married Sophie in 1952. He became a U.S. citizen in 1957. Tony was one of the original co-founders for raising the donation funds for the property where St. John The Baptist Greek Orthodox Chruch stands, was very active on the Board of Directors. He was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Karas and 11 brothers and sisters. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sophie Karas; son, Constantine Karas; daughter, Pauline Helen Spencer (Wayne); four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. The family will receive Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 9:30 am – until service at 11:00 AM at St. John The Baptist Greek Orthodox Church. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memoryto St. John The Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 2418 W. Swann Ave, Tampa, FL 33609.
