Obituary

Arthur "Jack" Floyd was born in NYC in 1927. Raised in Astoria by a single mom Jack went to PS 126. He excelled in sports and it was here where he met many of his lifelong friends. He played all sports and joined the Swimming and Diving Team at Astoria Pool. An avid swimmer, Jack had dreamed and trained to swim the English Channel, but swims across the channel were suspended during and after the War Years.

He worked to help support his family. Jack worked at a poultry plant preparing chickens for customers, he made bread, cakes, and donuts for Benkert's Bakery, and was a counterman at Schraft's. It was at Schrafts that he was introduced to the world of finance and stocks.

In 1954 he married Colleen Byrne at St Raphael's and they had four children; Eileen, Jacqueline (Jackie), Richard, and Jill.

Jack joined the NYC Sanitation Department. He was promoted to the position of Foreman.

An avid golfer, Jack celebrated his Hole-in-One at a Golf Tournament. He also hunted and fished with his best friend Charlie Korber. They built a cabin in the Catskills as a hunting and fishing retreat.

Jack also built a cabin in the backyard of his Sunnyside home.

He was a great storyteller and reflecting on his life a friend Frank Beider wrote:

"When it came to telling stories he was unparalleled and when I listened to him I didn't want to leave the room. He was so engaging . He was the ultimate raconteur, turning even the simplest story into a hilarious adventure. The world will be a lot less funny"

He enjoyed warm weather and relocated to Florida in 2019. It was here that Jack enjoyed sitting in the sun, smoking cigars, listening to talk radio, watching CNBC, and having an occasional Fleischman's.

Donations can be made in his memory to St Sebastian's Catholic Academy in Woodside Queens.
