Carole Starrett Mayer, 77, of Tampa, died at home on March 16, 2015, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her parents were the late George and Frances Starrett of Columbus, OH. Carole attended Gahanna Lincoln High School in Columbus and Milligan College in Johnson City, TN. She was married to the late Dr. Daniel Mayer for fifty five years. They met and married in Ohio, moved to Des Moines, IA for medical school and found their permanent home in Tampa. Carole was a devoted Christian and loved helping young women be the best wives and mothers they could be. She loved to sing with her family and gave them a love for music. She believed that music was an art form that bridges the gap between earth and heaven. Through fifteen years of gradual physical decline as a result of Parkinson's disease, she never lost her hope or joy, influencing everyone she knew from family and friends to caregivers. She communicated deep love sometimes with only a warm smile. Her legacy is one of extraordinary love and heroism as she faithfully endured with patience and grace. Everyone who knew her loved her. She is survived by her children, Martha Crane (Thomas), Mark Mayer, DO, (Luisa Guzman), Mary Parsons (Gary), Matthew Mayer (Rachel Covarrubias), Michele Sherbet (Clint), Amy Howard (James),her stepsons Timothy Mayer (Debbie) , David Mayer (Vivian), twenty five grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and many others who would call her "mom". She is also survived by her siblings Lynda Waugh (Jack), Willard Starrett (Jeannie) and Barbara Phillips (Phil). A funeral service will be held at 6:30 PM,March 26th at Tampa Covenant Church, 13320 Lake Magdalene Blvd. Tampa FL 33618.The family will visit with friends one hour prior to service.
