Daniel Augustine Kozlovsky of Lutz, Florida passed away Tuesday October 10, 2017 at the VA Hospice Facility at the age of 93. Rosary and visitation will be Friday October 13 from 6 pm – 8 pm at the MacDonald Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 14 at 9 am at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lutz. Interment will be at a later date at New Garden Cemetery, Greensboro, N.C.
Daniel was born August 2, 1924 in Mesquite, Texas. The eighth of 12 children, he was the son of Joseph M. and Agnes Zgarba Kozlovsky, cotton farmers in Mesquite. He left the farm in 1944 to join the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army and participated in Operation Varsity during World War II, earning a Bronze Star, the Victory medal, and a Purple Heart. He was on the way to Japan aboard a transport ship in the Panama Canal when Japan surrendered. He re-enlisted into the 82nd Airborne Division and was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. A couple of buddies from Greensboro introduced him to their cousin and soon to be wife, Mabel Knight. He worked for Talley Laundry Machinery and later Lorillard Tobacco from which he retired. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club in North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, his wife Mabel, and his son Daniel. He is survived by two brothers, Bernard Kozlovsky of Rockwall, Texas, Edmund Kozlovsky of San Antonio, Texas, sister Albertina Grooms of Lynchburg, Virginia, daughter Martha Lyndora Taylor of Wilmington, NC, son David Kozlovsky and his wife Michele of Lutz, Florida, daughter-in-law Brenda Kozlovsky of Stokesdale, N.C., nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
