Obituary

David "Ron" Slinker, 62 of Tampa passed away March 28, 2008. Ron was born in New Orleans, moved to Tampa in 1958 and attended Sacred Heart School, high school in Hawaii, then returned to Tampa and attended the University of Tampa. Ron served with United States Marines, retired as Captain, and received the Silver Star and Bronze Star. He joined the Tampa Police Dept where he served 10 years, received Medal of Bravery for saving six children from a house fire, left the department as 3rd Class Detective. Ron owned three Karate Schools and was ranked fourth in the world in full contact karate and is a member of the Hall of Fame. Ron was a professional wrestler known as "Spoiler" with the Eddie Graham Pro Wrestling Association. During his career, he made over 200 T.V. appearances and was ½ of the National Tag-team Champions. He also was a past president of the N.W.A. Ron was trainer and teacher to The Rock, Hulk Hogan, Rob Van Damme, and Hiro Matsuta. Mr. Slinker ran for Hillsborough County Commission in 1975 and was very active in politics on the national and local level. Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Rosalia Ferlita. He is survived by his children, David Slinker and Dina Myers; grandson, Elijah Myers; mother, Mary; twin brother, Don and brother, Bill; and sister, Mary Jo Harman; and many nieces and nephews.A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, April 3 from 6 to 8PM at MacDonald Funeral Home.
