Edel Velena Kates, 74, of Tampa, Florida passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013. She was born in Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands in 1939 and she moved to Tampa in 1960. She was the daughter of Thomas Carl and Githa Havalena Bodden. Mom loved the beach, "a good piece of fish" and most of all her family. She attended Idlewild Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob" Kates Sr. Edel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Alfred Lyons; her son and daughter-in-law Robbie and Cindy Kates, and her son, David Kates; six grandchildren Ana, Gracie and Benjamin Lyons, Madeline and Alexander Kates and Nicholas Kates; and nieces, Yvonne, Sherry, Kathy,Donna, Sandy and Junie; Funeral services will take place at 12 Noon Friday, February 22nd at the chapel of MacDonald Funeral Home, 10520 North Florida Ave, Tampa. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa.
