Mr. Edward T. McCaffery, 71, of Tampa, FL passed away May 27, 2014. He was born in Montgomery Alabama, his early education was in Europe and graduated McGill H.S. in Mobile Alabama. He then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1960 to 1964. Edward married Katherine Ficarrotta in 1964, they moved to Taunton, Massachusetts and opened Eddie's Automotive & Machine Shop. In 1982, they moved to Tampa and opened Tampa Automotive, Inc. He had congestive heart failure in 1986 and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, thus resulting a heart transplant in January 1996. Edward became a volunteer for Life Link in 1997, he joined the National Organization for TransplantEnlightenment (N.O.T.E.) in 1998 and was president of N.O.T.E. since 2010. Edward was also a member of Kiwanis and Elks Lodge #708. Edward was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He did so many things in so many ways for so many people. The greatest part of him was his love of life and kindness to others.Edward was preceded in death by his son Edward James McCaffery. He is survived by his wife Katherine McCaffery, daughter, Katie Nickerson; granddaughters, Gracie Nickerson and Mandi Nickerson; grandsons, Casey Nickerson and Coty Nickerson (Gina); great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Landon and Gabriella. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 31st at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tampa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Edward McCaffery to National Organization of Transplant Enlightenment (N.O.T.E.), 13014 N. Dale Mabry Hwy, #187, Tampa, FL 33618.
