Mrs. Eileen Ann Donaghy, died on Wednesday, October 12, 2005. She was born in New York City, New York on November 29, 1923, and moved to the Tampa area with her husband, Joe, and family in 1950 from Kansas City, Missouri. She was a homemaker when her children were young and worked for the Tampa Tribune and WFLA Channel 8 TV until her retirement. Eileen was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, doing service work there and delivering food through the Meals-on-Wheels organization. She was Salutatorian of her high school in New York City and worked as an Expediter at the Tampa shipyard during World War II, helping to get material where it was needed most. She was a loving mother and wife who always put her family ahead of her own needs and desires. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary McCarthy, infant children, Ann Patricia Donaghy and James Gregory Donaghy, sister, Peggy Lohman and her parents, Thomas Comer and Marjorie Pierce Comer. Eileen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph J. Donaghy; her children, Joe Donaghy & wife Sandy of Cary, N.C., Bob Donaghy & wife Ethel of Lutz, FL, Maggie Bailey & her husband, Rob of Woodstock, IL, and John Donaghy of Chicago, IL; son-in-law, Liam McCarthy of Colorado; and eighteen grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM Friday, October 21, 2005 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 821 S. Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa. A private interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in her memory to the American Heart Association or to a cancer research organization.
