Elaine (Walton) Ranous, 74, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla. She was born in Kenosha on Nov. 13, 1941, to Walter and Johanne (Andreasen) Walton. Elaine married John Ranous on Sept. 14, 1964, and he preceded her in death on April 10, 2002. She began teaching at the Bangor School District in 1965 and taught grades four - sixth until 1997; then middle school math until she retired in 2001. While in Bangor, Elaine organized and supervised the sixth grade Washington DC trip from 1979-2001,advised the school's Safety Patrol program, lead seventh graders to Poynette for their annual field trip, lead a number of school fundraising efforts, and served as a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Master. After retiring to Florida, she was very involved with the Crystal River and Citrus County communities. Elaine served as Secretary for Crime Stoppers of Citrus County, was a volunteer for the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, served on the Library Advisory Board for the Citrus County Library System, was a Computer Assistant at the Coastal Region Branch Library and was the Treasurer to her Homeowner's Association. She was also a regular visitor and volunteer at Homosassa Spring Wildlife Park, where she enjoyed observing the tranquil manatees. Elaine is survived by a loving son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Judy Ranous of Waukesha; two beloved grandchildren, Rebecca and Johannah Ranous of Waukesha; one caring sister, Nancy Julien of Waunakee; sister-in-law Jean (Robert) Bertling, and nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held Thursday March 10th from 5pm-7pm at Cracker's Bar, Grill & Tiki, 502 NW 6th St., Crystal River, FL 34428.Memorials may be given to The Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, 4150 S.
