Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Phillips Vogt went home to Heaven on June 4, 2024 in Plant City, Florida. Elizabeth was born in Huttig, Arkansas on November 8, 1934. She moved as a little girl to South Carolina, where she graduated from Summerville High School. Her future husband, Howard Vogt, was in the military and came to Summerville with his friend Bert, who introduced them. Howard was from Tampa, Florida and began driving back-and-forth to visit his new sweetheart.  He decided he couldn't keep up with the long drive every weekend so he told her they should just get married. The couple did just that and were married on July 25, 1953, a few months after they began dating. The newlyweds made their home in Tampa and Elizabeth went to work for the Hav-a-Tampa Cigar Company up until the time she welcomed her first son John Drayton Vogt in 1958. Elizabeth loved being a mother and homemaker. Howard and Elizabeth welcomed daughter Susan Elizabeth in 1964.

Elizabeth was a lifelong Baptist and was an active member at Spencer Memorial and University Community Baptist Churches. She has been a member of Idlewild  Baptist Church in Tampa for almost 50 years. Elizabeth was also an Eastern Star for over 70 years.

Elizabeth loved children so much that she became a kindergarten teacher and served in that career for  more than 10 years.

She perfected the art of baby rocking as she welcomed seven grandchildren. Her baby rocking song was the hymn Love Lifted Me.

Elizabeth's hands were always busy sewing, crafting or crocheting. She made many of John and Susan's clothes. Later she would teach grandchildren and friends all kinds of needlework. Babies in her family received a special baby blanket. This was no easy task as she had 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She also crafted beautiful quilts for each of her grandchildren.

She loved baking and was known for bringing her desserts to church functions and to friends in need. She loved collecting recipes and loved sharing them even more.  Red was her favorite color from clothes to couches to Ford trucks. She even chose the red roses we have here today.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her infant son and daughter, beloved son-in-law Mark Eaves and her loving husband Howard Mitchell Vogt. She is survived by her children John Vogt (Janice) and Susan Vogt Eaves. Her grandchildren are Jessica E. Vogt, Markham R. Eaves II (Catherine), Preston D. Eaves (Andrea), Benjamin P. Eaves (Mariah), Morgan Eaves Novak (Dylan), Jameson S. Eaves and Mitchell H. Eaves. Her great grandchildren are Emily Eaves, Aiden Eaves, Mason Eaves, Natalie Eaves, Tripp Eaves, Kennedy Eaves, Allison Eaves, Eternity Novak and Jack Novak (expected September 2024).

Her celebration of life is Sunday, June 9, 2024 with visitation from 1-2pm and memorial service from 2-3pm. Internment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
