Fr. Peter Nicosia, OFM Cap died on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Tampa General Hospital. He was a member of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars, Province of the Sacred Stigmata of St. Francis. Fr. Peter was born on August 27, 1931 in Rochester, New York. He professed his vows as a Capuchin friar on July 29, 1951. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 14, 1959. Fr. Peter was the son of the late Tom and Angelina Nicosia. He was the beloved brother of Josephine Panchyshyn and the late Rose Mary Kalish. He is survived by his niece, Barbara Venniro and her husband Mike, nephew Tom Panchyshyn, niece, Lorrie Bond and her children Phillip and Christopher, niece Andrea Kalish and great niece Christina Rose. Fr. Peter served in various capacities throughout his life. Most recently he served as pastor of Most Holy Redeemer Parish in Tampa. He also served on the staff of the Franciscan Center located here in Tampa. Since May of 2012 Fr. Peter was a resident of St. Joseph''s John Knox Village Med Center where he was lovingly cared for by all the staff. Fr. Peter will lay in state Friday, June 28th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Saturday at Most Holy Redeemer, the Liturgy will be presided by the Most Reverend Robert N. Lynch, Bishop of the Diocese of St Petersburg. Interment will take place at St Lawrence Friary Cemetery in Beacon, New York.
