German "Salinas" Vega-Lopez, 75, of Tampa passed away June 12, 2007. He was a Puerto Rican musician who recorded songs with Elvis Presley and was an original member of the trio Los Hispanos. One of the highlights of his career was recording "Fun in Acapulco" with Elvis Presley in the early 1960's and playing gigs with his friends as far away as Japan.
Mr. Vega-Lopez would have celebrated his 76th birthday next week. He was one of the best second voices of Puerto Rico, a great musician and a great person. He never spoke to offend; he was one of God's souls' said Guito Vadis who worked with Mr. Vega-Lopez in a quartet known as the Four Amigos. He said the group also performed with Elvis in the 1962 film 'Girls! Girls! Girls!'.The performers were popular in Las Vegas and other West Coast venues. We appeared on 'The Ed Sullivan Show', the show of Steve Allen in Las Vegas, in Hawaii' Vadis said. Mr. Vega-Lopez also belonged to Los Borincanos and Los Chicos de San Juan, said Orvil Miller, who wrote about the collaboration with Elvis. Mr Vega served with the US Army during Korean conflict. He is survived by his daughter Olga P. Vega-Burgos of Tampa; son, Carlos Vega of Thailand; brothers, Raul and Orlando; sisters, Paquita and Mercedes; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held back home in Puerto Rico will be held12 PM Friday, July 6that Funeraria La Monserrate in Salinas, Puerto Rico.Burial will be at 1:30PM in the Municipal Cemetery of Salinas
