Mr. Jack R. Brooks, died in Tampa, on Saturday May 24th at the age of 79. Jack was born in Somerset, Kentucky on May 3, 1929 to his late parents Thomas and Edna Brooks.Jack grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee where he attended Central High School before joining the United States Army in 1946. After serving as a member of the U.S. occupying forces in Japan he met and married his late wife Margrett Smith. Jack and Margrett settled in Tampa, Florida in 1952 where he lived until his death.  Jack worked for the Tampa Tribune as a mailer and machinist for over 40 years before his retirement.  Jack was a compassionate and giving individual who will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Always full of good humor and a natural curiosity for the world and our human contributions, Jack was always quick to share his knowledge and gifts with others.Jack is survived by his brother Joe, of Ormond Beach, Florida, his sister-in-law Donna Brooks of Lutz, Florida, brother-in-law J. V. Smith of Columbia, South Carolina, sister-in-law Callie Mallette of Palmetto, Florida and a multitude of devoted nieces and nephews from across the country. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Wednesday, May 28th   at MacDonald Funeral Home, 10520 Florida Avenue, Tampa, with services held the following morning, 10 AM, Thursday, May 29th  at the funeral home chapel. Private interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
