JAMES ANDREW HURST, age 50, of Tampa passed away peacefully on December 5, 2020. He was born in Highland Park, MI, the son of Andrea Hurst and Nicholas Kefallinos. James spent his early childhood in Chicago before moving to Jacksonville FL at the age of six.
James was preceded in death by his mother, Andrea Hurst and his former wife, Jackie Buck. He leaves behind his two loving daughters, Gina Hurst of Tampa and Alexandria (Ali) Hurst of Plattsburgh, NY, his sister Deborah Cooper and husband, Chris, brother Curtiss Baker, nieces Shannon Baker (Santiago), Cynthia Baker, Veronica Wages and Victoria Carlin and nephews Anthony Wages and Robert Wages, along with his father and extended Kefallinos family in Greece.
James moved to Orlando in 1993 and was married there, before settling in the Tampa Bay area in 2007.
During his youth, James enjoyed playing sports and maintained that competitiveness throughout his life. He was an avid Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears fan, through the good years and bad.
During his teen years, he gravitated to his true passion of playing drums, where he exceled, hitting the stages of Los Angeles in the late eighties. A huge Rush fan, and inspired in percussion by the late Neil Peart, he would practice for hours on end until he mastered the music in front of him.
In his adult years, James enjoyed a successful professional career as a salesperson, first in the commercial finance industry, before moving into the advertising field. Through the years, he built long-term friendships with many co-workers and clients.
The greatest joy of his life was his family, especially his two daughters, who he loved unconditionally and completely until his last breath.
A celebration of his life is planned at MacDonald Funeral Home, located at 10520 N. Florida Avenue, Tampa, FL 33612 for Saturday, December 19th, with visitation starting at 2:00 PM, and funeral services starting at 3:00. The family welcomes any and all friends to attend.
