IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane Elizabeth
Jones
March 22, 1930 – May 11, 2022
Jane Elizabeth Jones passed away on May 11, 2022, at the age of 92. Elizabeth was born on March 22, 1930, in Huntsville, Alabama. She moved with her family to Tampa where she put down roots over a lifetime.
Elizabeth graduated from Jefferson High School in Tampa Heights. She met her husband Hollis when she worked at Shae and Prang Five and Dime Store on Florida Avenue, where she worked after school. Hollis was tall, handsome, and charming, and they fell in love. Hollis moved up in the Fire Department, and was eventually promoted to District Fire Chief for Ybor City.
Elizabeth and Hollis raised three children- Victoria, Rebecca, and Sandra. Elizabeth filled their home with family, friends, and good food and it became the gathering place for family dinners and holidays. Elizabeth was strong, and smart, and so generous offeringfood, a place to stay, and a safe haven for extended family when they needed it.
When Rebecca's daughter Kimberly was born, Elizabeth was a daily supporter, nurturer, and taxi driver for her grandchild.
Elizabeth loved her church community at Unity Church of Tampa. She went regularly, and even after she stopped driving she got rides so she could enjoy the spiritual community at Unity.
One of her most beloved and joyful life activities was dancing! After growing up in a community where dancing was considered sinful, Elizabeth loved sharing dance in community. She danced with Bay Area Twirlers, showing amazing skills and energy with square dancing and round dancing. She danced into her mid 80's!
Elizabeth will be remembered as a strong, smart, and generous woman who stood up for her beliefs and the rights of others. She protested for human rights, and she used her voice with conviction. Elizabeth loved her whole family deeply - family was her everything.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters Rebecca and Sandra, her niece Barbara, and her granddaughter Kimberly.
