IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean Marie
Gilmore
May 14, 1954 – October 2, 2024
Jean Marie Gilmore passed away on October 2, 2024 in Spring Hill, Florida after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. We are heartbroken to lose her and know that she was welcomed in the arms of Jesus Christ.
Jean was born May 14, 1954 to Lloyd W and Dolores J (Burtnett) Lorensen in Blair, Nebraska. She spent her elementary education in Exira, Iowa until the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1965. She attended Gorman Junior High and graduated from Harrison High School in 1972. She went on to obtain her Bachelor's degree and teaching certification from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado in 1976 and a Masters of Education at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2006.
She married Thomas (Tom) Gilmore on September 23, 1976. Jean and Tom initially settled in Denver, Colorado and later lived in Dodge City, Kansas, Middletown, New York and Tampa, Florida. Jean spent over 30 years teaching and in school administration in New York and later in Tampa, Florida. The positive impact and influence she had with her students was amazing and lives on today as evident through her continued relationships and testimonies of her past students. She embodied the ultimate teacher helping to prepare her students not only for higher education but for their personal growth and successful lives. She left a tremendous legacy. She loved her family fiercely and loved to take her grandkids to the pool in the summer and also loved going to Starbucks and Marshall's weekly with Dionna and Arianna, watching Sean's sports events and crafting with Amani and Tristan. She had a deep faith and trust in God. She was an avid reader and researcher, loved her plants and flowers and had eclectic taste in music. She had the most beautiful smile, quick wit and wonderful laugh.
Jean is survived by three daughters, Christena Gilmore (Austin Dickinson) of Springhill, FL, Mary Gilmore (Mike Bedford) of Brooksville, FL, Katherine Gilmore (John Antoine) of Hudson, FL, grandchildren, Arianna Gilmore, Dionna Tucker, Sean Bedford, Amani Burns, and Tristan Antoine. Her mother Dolores Lorensen of Mansfield, TX and siblings Mark Lorensen of Shepperton, Australia, Carol Brungardt (Dale) of Oro Valley, AZ and Paul Lorensen (Sharon) of Mansfield, TX and many nieces and nephews. As well as her very dear friend Joni Villalobos of Wesley Chapel, Fl and her best boy-her dog, Louis.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Tom on their 43rd wedding anniversary September 23, 2019 and her father Lloyd Lorensen, April 1, 2024.
Memorial service will be held on the 27th of October at 2:00 pm at Northpointe Church in Lutz, FL.
"Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard but always near. Still lived, still missed and very dear." Rest in peace Jean Gilmore.
