Joe "Grant" Simmons, 58, of Lutz, FL passed away peacefully April 23, 2014 surrounded by family and loved ones. Grant was born in Phenix City, Alabama and moved to Tampa as a small child and lived most of his life in the Tampa Bay area. Grant lived and worked his values and devoted himself to the love of his family and friends. Grant was a graduate of King High School. He had a respected career as a maintenance mechanic at Southeast Dairy Processors Inc. for the past 26 years. He also worked at Thatcher Glass and was a skilled welder for Chicago Bridge and Iron. Grant had a passion for animals, especially dogs, and they were always a big part of his life. Grant loved to ride his motorcycle, go to the shooting range, tinker with automobiles, enjoyed plant shows and was a collector of many things. Most of all, he was an avid NASCAR fan and never missed a race. He was a loving and caring husband, son, father, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, brother-in-law, and last but not least, friend. He touched so many lives in so many ways, he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Danna; his revered mother, JoAnn; his cherished daughter, Amy and her fiance, Aaron Olson; his treasured son, David G.; his adoring brother, David R. and his fiance Angel; his niece, Clarice and nephew, Steven Smith. He is preceded in death by his father, Elmer Ruthledge Simmons and his sister, Vicki Denise Smith. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday 11:00 am at Lake Carroll Baptist Church, 12012 N. Rome Ave., Tampa, FL 33612 with a Celebration of Life to follow in the fellowship hall. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute or Lake Carroll Baptist Church.
