Obituary

Mr. John Timothy Miller, 68, of Largo died at home under Hospice care on January 14, 2009.  He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and lived a life of service to family and country.  A graduate of the Ohio Military Institute, John Carroll University (BA) and Case Western Reserve University (MBA), John completed four years of enlisted service in the U.S. Air Force. Shortly after moving his family to Largo, Florida in 1972, John returned to the military giving twenty years of distinguished service in the United States Coast Guard Reserve, retiring as a Commander in 1994. John retired as the Chief Financial Officer of Gulf Coast Legal Services in 2004. He was a Master Mason, a member of the Reserve Officers Association and a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.  He loved to read about history and had a passion for classical music. John celebrated 45 years of marriage to his wife Sonja with a cruise in December.  In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Lisa and her husband Jensen (Clearwater), John Karl and his wife Michelle (Orlando), and Maria (Chesapeake, VA) as well as three grandchildren, Jack, George and Shy, who knew him as "Opa - a funny, nice fella'."   He is also survived by his sister, Lee Callaghan (Safety Harbor), his brother Charles E. Miller and his wife Jean (Porter, ME) and 17 admiring nieces and nephews.  A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 12:30 pm at The Serenity Gardens Memorial Park in Largo, south entrance on Wilcox Road.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Hospice of Florida Suncoast.  He was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
