Obituary

John "Ziggy" Rolando Luis was born on October 7, 1959 in Havana, Cuba. At a young age, his family moved to Tampa, Florida, where he grew up. His siblings are one brother, Paul, and two sisters, Rebekah and Kathleen.While at Jefferson High School, where John played trumpet in the band, his natural talent for music grew.Soon after graduation in 1977, he began playing guitar professionally. John became Ziggy, founding member of The Vandals out of Orlando, which eventually became Four in Legion signed to CBS records. The band toured nationally with famous acts such as Stevie Ray Vaughn and Molly Hatchet. In 1990, Ziggy, his wife Lee and their son Paul moved to Auburn, Alabama where he founded the band Zig and the Zigtones. A year later, they welcomed their second son, Scott. After moving to Montgomery in 1992, the Zigtones began playing state wide and across the Gulf region for the next 25 years.
After a two and a half year battle with cancer, he passed away on August 24, 2018. As per his wishes, he will be cremated with no planned service. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
