John Michael Shailo has reunited with the friends, family, pets, and acquaintances that had departed from him during his 52 years of life. Born in Lakewood, Ohio, he lived in Gulfport, Mississippi before settling in Tampa, Florida fifteen years ago. No matter where he was, John truly enjoyed getting to know many types of people from all walks of life. John found value and usefulness in everyone and everything around him. Known to be thrifty, he enjoyed negotiating a good deal for the sake of the debate as well as for the bargain. He used his negotiating skills to try his luck at an occasional hand of poker, and left his nephew, John, a legacy in the art of bluffing. John's tender and loving nature was sometimes hidden by his gruff and manly exterior. He defended his pure and child-like spirit that provided him the insight to be especially nurturing toward children, the elderly, and the disabled. He loved helping people whenever and however he could, and his compassionate, patient, and humorous character will ensure he is both deeply missed as well as lovingly remembered. Some of the members of his heavenly family include his parents, Thomas John Shailo, Sr. and Earlene Stacy Shailo Gibson; brothers Thomas John Shailo, Jr., Lawrence Wayne Shailo, Terrence Duane Shailo, and Gary (Duga) Richard Shailo; a nephew, Jason Fincher; cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives, dear friends, and his beloved dog, Patches. John's remaining family who will remember and miss him include his sister, Melody Shailo Sheffer; half-sisters Angelina Gentry Twaddle, and Linda Stacy Burns; nieces Kimberly Shailo, Loren Shailo, Kendal Sheffer, Rae Hollingsworth; nephews Robert Schultz, and John Sheffer, Jr.; many grand nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; long-time close friends Nancy Lee Field, Janice (Ragamuffin) Long, Jeff and Leslie Bird; good friends Donnell (Jake the Snake) Jacobs, Vernessa, Tony Sanks, Cindy Davenport, Matthew, James Shaw, and so many more; and his Mississippi leg hound guard dog named Pug-Nose. Funeral services with full military honors will take place 2:30 PM, Tuesday, Oct.18, 2011 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
