John S. "Steve" Hisler, age 72 of Tampa, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  He was born September 29, 1940 in Ft. Myers, FL to Charles and Ethel Douglas Hisler. The first of two children, Steve grew up in Ft. Myers, and later lived in Gainesville and Jacksonville. He attended the University of Florida for two years and then joined the Air Force in 1962 as an enlisted airman.  He served during the Vietnam War, stationed in the U.S and Japan, where he married his loving "Japanese bride" of 47 years.  Steve returned to the U.S., earned his Bachelor's degree in Imagery Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and transitioned to an Air Force 2nd Lieutenant. He subsequently received his Master's degree in Systems Engineering from George Washington University and served a distinguished career as an imagery scientist and analyst.  Retiring after twenty years of service at the rank of Captain, Steve moved on to continue his patriotic service for another twenty-four years in the national intelligence field.  Soon after retiring, Steve and family moved to Tampa to better enjoy his children and grandchildren.
Steve was a loving, deeply compassionate, funny, and vivacious man who cherished his family and went out of his way to bring help and happiness to others.  His gentle demeanor was a shining example of true personal engagement. His deeply-held principles for what is right, over what is easy, was a guidepost for his family.  His obvious love of life and learning, and his profound curiosity about the world were an inspiration.
Steve is survived by his loving wife and soul mate Pat, his treasured children Regina Gaston, Christopher, Matthew and Heidi Hisler; his beloved grandchildren Zachary, Ian, Ayslinn, Anika, Camille, Tera, and Katherine; his cherished sister, Marian Hisler-Feldstein; and numerous dear nieces and nephews.
His loss is immeasurable; his impact on our lives is unforgettable.
Friends may visit at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 10520 North Florida Ave., Tampa, FL on Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 6-8pm.  Funeral Mass will be offered at 11am, Friday, July 19, 2013 at St. Timothy's Catholic Church in Tampa.  A private interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, we humbly suggest memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Cancer Society, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
