Mr. Jorge "El Gallo" Blanco, 81, of Tampa died February 4, 2005. He was born January 30, 1924 in Cardenas, Cuba. As a young man he was very active in sports and was a great basketball player for El Club Deportivo de Cardenas. Later he became a basketball coach for La Progresiva School, all in his hometown. He came to this country in 1969 with his family and worked 20 yrs for Sears. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters & his beloved grandson, Raulito Carrasco. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Maria Blanco; daughters, Lourdes Gomez & husband Mario, and Maria Antonia Blanco; granddaughters, Kailyn, Desiree, & Devoni; A memorial service will be held Sunday (today), at 7 pm at the First Hispanic Presbyterian Church, 2828 W. Kirby St, where he was an active member for 24 years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
