Obituary

Joseph A. Luedee, 91, passed away peacefully March 13, 2013 in Tampa. He was a longtime resident at John Knox Village and was well known and loved by many residents there. He always had a smile and a joke for all and would often hold organ recitals for the residents who would gather by the dozens to hear him play requests. He was born in New Haven, Conn. In 1922. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Luedee. He is survived by his sister, Marie Rettberg of Conn; his sons, Joseph, Jr of Calif, and Mark Luedee of Conn; his daughter, Marilyn Welton of Maine; his step-son, Ward Eicher of Colorado; step-daughter, Cathy Correia of Tampa; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Joe enlisted in the Navy at the beginning of WWII and was involved in the invasion of Iwo Jima. Joe carried the BAR heavy machine gun up the mountains which damaged his hearing for life. Joe saved a fellow sailor from drowning and they remained friends for life. Joe received the Purple Heart as well as many more distinguished service medals. He later enlisted in the United States Army. For most of his life, he worked as a millwright. Funeral services with full military honors will take place at a later date, he will be placed next to his wife, Gail. The family requests in lieu of flowers, send memorial contributions in memory of Joe Luedee to the Wounded Warrior Project. "Joe was dearly loved"
