Joseph Pizzurro, born in Tampa, passed away on November 20, 2017, at St. Joseph's Hospital North after a long battle with giant axonal neuropathy (GAN). He attended Most Holy Redeemer School, Lake Magdalene Elementary and Gaither High School. Joseph was full of life and inspired many people. He volunteered for Kids and Canine, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the USF Medical Sessions Group. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Pizzurro in December of 2013. Joseph is survived by his parents, Vincenzo & Mary Pizzurro; sisters Julia and Sandra, all of Tampa; maternal grandfather, Frank Tranchina of New York; aunt, Joanie Parker of Boca Raton; uncle, Anthony Tranchina and wife Maria of New York; aunt, Giuseppina Terenzi of Italy; uncle, Vito Pizzurro and wife Lisa of Germany; and cousins, Julie (Gaby Ramos) Julian, Mark, Laura, Christa, Frankie, Alesia, Katia (Gianni), Valerio and Giada. God called a mighty warrior to serve the Heavens. Rest in Peace sweet Joseph. You will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten. Your actions spoke louder than words, and your kind heart was bigger than life itself. You were an exemplary human being. Special thanks to the doctors, ICU nurses, and respiratory therapists who cared for him at SJHN. Special recognition to his pulmonologist, Dr. Domenick J. Reina; primary care doctor, Dr. Laurie Woodard; neurologist, Dr. Ray Fernandez, ENT physician, Dr. Pamela Baines, and infectious disease, Dr. Lindell Busciglio. The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday morning, December 6th from 10-12 am at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 17512 Lakeshore Road, Lutz. A funeral mass will take place immediately following at 12 o'clock. A celebration of life will take place after mass at In the Loop, 3338 Land O'Lakes Blvd, Land O'Lakes, FL 34639.
