Justiniano Humberto Valdes (78) of Tampa, FL and born in Sagua La Grande, Las Villas, Cuba passed peacefully at home 10/25/2016 surrounded by family. Justiniano is survived by childhood sweetheart and loving wife of over 57 years, Juana Valdes; his six children, Humberto Valdes (Angela), Hector Valdes (Ruby), Ricardo Valdes (Tonya), Raisa Barnes (Greg), Javier Valdes (Kim) and Miriam Lopez (Michael); 19 grandchildren, 6 great granddaughters, many nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws. Justiniano is predeceased by his mother, Petra Fredesvinda Valdes and father, Justiniano "Nano" Valdes. He is the eldest of 6 children and survived by his siblings, Nestor Valdes (Gina), Juanito Valdes, Caridad Gomez, Mercy Valdes, and Cecilia Nunez (Reinaldo). Justiniano immigrated to the United States from Cuba in 1967 with his wife and 4 children to provide them a better way of life. He worked for Verizon until his retirement in 2013 as a telephone technician. While he was a man of few words, his actions and selflessness spoke volumes about his character and love of family. It is his strong belief in family which shaped us into who we are today and will continue to guide us in his absence. He will be deeply missed but his legacy will go on as his love was not in what he said but in his actions. He was instrumental in the immigration of his parents, siblings and their children, and in-laws during the Mariel boatlift of 1980 in which he was able to offer his family the same chance for freedom, equality, and opportunity. His sacrifices and hard work provided his children the opportunity for higher education and the better life he had hoped for. His hope and optimism that our next generation of family would do better than the previous is realized in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will receive family and friends Oct 27, 2016 from 7pm – 9pm at MacDonald's Funeral Home with a service at 7:30. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 amOct 28, 2016.Burial will follow at Garden of Memories.
