Ickes
August 5, 1928 – June 14, 2022
Kenneth Ruben lckes, 93, of Tampa, passed away on June 14, 2022. Kenneth was born on August 5,1928 in Sproul, PA, a son of the late Scott Reuben and Clara Jane (Whysong) Ickes. On February 18, 1950, he married Dorothy Louise Ryan, who survives him. Also surviving are five (5) children: Linda Kennedy of Gainesville, Va., Nancy Fitzpatrick and Leslie Porter of Tampa, FL., Elaine Segura of Austin, TX, and Kenneth W Ickes of Davenport, FL., eight (8) grandchildren and eight (8) great-grandchildren. He is survived by a brother, Robert of Fairfield, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald, and three (3) sisters, Dorothy Thomas, Pauline Feather, and Betty Barney.
Kenneth graduated from Bedford High School in 1946 and played left end on the undefeated 1945 football team that was entered into the Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame on June 11, 2006. Mr. Ickes, upon graduating from Central Radio and Television, was employed as a radio engineer for
radio stations WVAM Altoona and WRAW Reading, Pa. He was employed by American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) and retired on December 8,1988 from their Engineering Department at Oakton, Va. where he had the responsibility for Digital Radio and Fiber Optics. He was
a member of Mt. Zion Reformed Church of Pavia where he served as President, Elder, choir member, and a wheels on meals volunteer. His love for Christ and his church ended up being his hobby upon retiring from AT&T. Upon his relocation to Tampa, FL, Kenneth attended the Family of Christ
Lutheran Church. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and served in the Armed Forces Occupation of Japan. He was a member of the Duncansville VFW, Hollidaysburg American Legion, and life member of the Telephone Workers of America. Kenneth enjoyed fishing, hunting and
traveling to see the splendors of God's creations.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the MacDonald Funeral Home, Tampa, FL. A funeral service will be held at Family of Christ Lutheran Church in Tampa, FL on Friday, June 24 th , at 11:00 am with viewing an hour prior from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Committal Service at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fl. at 1:00 pm.
