Kimberly Duke, known as "Kimmy" to family and friends and Mimi to her grandchildren, passed away suddenly in her Tampa home on August 20, 2018, at the age of 54 years. She was born on July 9, 1964 in Bangor, Maine to Bedford Kelley and Mary Pat Kelley before moving with her family to Connecticut at a young age. Growing up in Connecticut, she enjoyed ballet and playing guitar in church. Kimmy stayed in Connecticut until her late 30's, pouring her heart into her son raising him while being a single mother, and worked starting her medical career as a LPN before quickly earning her RN.
In 2003, Kimmy moved to Florida where she fell in love with the beach, the laid-back lifestyle and her husband Don Duke. Kimmy's passion for science, nursing, and learning, inspired her to continue her education at the University of South Florida where she ultimately became an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner specializing in Psychiatry in 2008. Her love of working with children and helping others is evidenced in the numerous lives she changed for the better.
Kimmy is lovingly remembered by her husband Don, son Bruce, daughter-in-law Clair, two grandchildren Leila and Elliott, brother Chris and pooch Gabriel. Countless friends, family, coworkers, and the many patients she was so devoted to, will miss her. Kimmy was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Austin Duke.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 30, at 12 p.m. at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd, Lutz, FL. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m., at the church.
Memorial donations in memory of Kimmy can be made to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.
