Kreg O'Leary, 42, of Tampa, died on August 24, 2017. Kreg was born in Winter Park Florida, with a profound hearing impairment, however, that did not keep him from accomplishing his goals. He wore hearing aids since he was 18 months old, and spent many years in hearing therapy and training to become oral, so he could participate in the hearing world. He made considerable progress in his speech and hearing by working before school every morning with Mrs. Denny Bolesta, during the 1980s, at the Robert McCord Oral School in south Tampa. His hard work was well worth the effort.
Kreg was always interested in education, and was very proud of graduating from the University of Tampa with honors in 2000. He held several jobs while attending school, majored in graphic arts in college, and was a talented artist. He was also very interested in accounting which became his career choice. He eventually received an exciting job opportunity with the Morgan and Morgan Law Firm in accounting, which he enjoyed immensely.
Kreg loved to try new things, especially restaurants, and was a member of the Tampa Bay Snow Skiers & Boarders Club with whom he made several trips out west and to Canada to ski. He also enjoyed travelling to sightsee and visited Europe with his special friends, Mark, Maureen, and Doug, this past Christmas.
Jan and Ken O'Leary, Kreg's parents, have always been amazed at his energetic determination in the pursuit of his goals and very proud of his many accomplishments. Kreg is also survived by his brother Kenton and sister-in-law Bridgette, as well as his niece Kammie and nephew Kellon, whom he loved deeply. Although we are greatly saddened and miss Kreg tremendously, we are comforted in the fact that he always strived to live his life on his terms, not allowing himself to be restricted by his hearing impairment.
A celebration of his life will be held at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, 2902 W. Fletcher Avenue, on September 28th, at 5 p.m., followed by dinner in Heritage Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Bolesta Center, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, University of South Florida, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., PCD 1017, Tampa, FL 33620, or to the charity of your choice. We know from firsthand experience that the work they do has lifelong benefits.
