IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Levon
Wentz
August 12, 1937 – April 17, 2025
Levon "Whitey" Wentz, 87, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 17, 2025, in Tampa, FL.
He was born in Pennville, IN, to Robert & Levada (Whitacre) Wentz on August 12, 1937. Levon proudly served in the Indiana National Guard and the US Army, stationed in Germany. After returning home in 1959, he married Marian Evelyn Brown and started their family. They moved to Grant County, then to Van Buren, IN, in 1970.
Whitey was active in the Black Creek Conservation Club, served as a committee member for the Van Buren Popcorn Festival, and belonged to the Van Buren American Legion. He volunteered as an EMT, in the Van Buren fire department, and as a deputy marshal. Later in life, he became a member of the Hopewell Church of Portland and the Memorial Drive Wesleyan Church in Muncie.
Whitey worked at the Marion Fisher Body General Motors plant. He served his fellow UAW 977 members as a committee member and national delegate until his retirement in 1987. He spent the remainder of his retirement in Tampa, where he enjoyed spending time with five generations of family members.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, son Charlie, brothers Don (surviving wife Margaret), and Jim & his wife, Mildred.
Levon is survived by brothers Alvin (Shirley) and Sam (Sandy) Wentz; children Beckie Wright, Suzie (Jerry) Nay, Shari (Randy) Dale, Dee Dee Baker, Bill (Lori) Wentz, and Charlie's wife, Kathy; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will miss him tremendously.
In lieu of cards or flowers, the family requests that you all get together for ice cream, as this was one of Whitey's favorite pastimes.
