MaKayla Noel Muir, 23 of Tampa, FL, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. MaKayla was born July 14, 1997 in Winter Park, FL and adopted by her mother, Sheri Scott and father, Ted Muir on December 21, 1997. During her younger years she lived in Madison, WI and Maitland, FL until moving with her family to Tampa, FL at the age of 9.
MaKayla is preceded in death by her grandfather, William Scott. She is survived by her loving mother Sheri Scott of Tampa, FL; her father, Ted Muir of Leland, MI; her devoted grandmother, Norma Scott of Maitland, FL and her uncle, Shea Scott of Casselberry, FL.
Makayla's love for sports flourished while living in Tampa. Her first love was football where she attended the Buccaneers Junior Cheerleading camp as well as having season tickets to the Buccaneers football games with her family and friends.
MaKayla was diagnosed at a young age with Crohn's disease and at the age of 12 was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Being a true warrior and survivor, she was cancer free at the age of 13. During her cancer treatment, she was introduced to Vinny Lecavalier and the Tampa Bay Lightning where her love for sports grew even stronger. She was very fortunate to have Vinny as her hero and her friend. In fact, MaKayla developed strong bonds with several Lightning players over the past years.
MaKayla had a very caring heart. She adored her time spent volunteering for Florida All Retriever Rescue where she developed a very close and personal friendship with the President and Founder, Lori Spaulding Lopez. She also cared for children and worked part time as a nanny for several families. MaKayla's love of horses was extreme, naming her own horse Stanley Cup. After treatment MaKayla had a vision to develop an Equine Therapy program dedicated to pediatric cancer patients. She saw her dream come to fruition with the help of Quantum Leap Farms where MaKayla's Hands on Horses was developed.
In 2015, through the Marty Lyons Foundation and a dream wish trip, she was able to fly to New York and meet Ed Sheeran. Ed was very impressed with her knowledge of his music and life. Another special bond with MaKayla was formed and they remained friends.
MaKayla's battle with Crohn's disease never stopped. She faced many obstacles and difficulties in her life due to her health, but through it all she would have a smile on her face. MaKayla passed away peacefully in her sleep due to complications from her disease.
Honoring MaKayla's request a Celebration of Life for MaKayla with her family and closest friends will take place at a later date. It was her hope that donations be made in MaKayla's name to the Florida All Retriever Rescue (FARR) Foundation at https://www.paypal.me/flretrieverrescue
Starting January 13, 2021 there will be a personal memorial page on forevermissed.com for everyone to share their favorite memories and pictures of MaKayla.
