IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Thomas
Tynan
December 25, 1946 – July 31, 2024
Michael Thomas Tynan, 77, of Tampa, passed away at his residence Wednesday July 31st after a brief but brave battle with lung cancer. Mike lived his life his way and never really complained. He was a fun-loving Irishman who would tell his stories and jokes to anyone who would listen. Born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, he remained in Chicago till his graduation from Saint Rita High School in 1964. He joined the Air Force and served 4 years at MacDill in Tampa. He truly loved sports especially his Chicago Cubs and Bears. He met his wife, Rose Mary in 1968 and they were married at Most Holy Redeemer Church in 1969. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education in 1972. He worked as a substitute teacher and as a delivery man for the Jewel Tea Company. He then became a manager at Pizza Hut. He later became a warehouse manager at Arthur J. Viders book distribution company and then a warehouse manager at National Building Maintenance Company where he remained until he retired.
The couple remained together in Tampa till their divorce in 1984; he never remarried. They had 4 beautiful children: three sons and a daughter. For many years he loved coaching Little League, initially coaching his oldest son and later his grandson. All of his children played baseball. He liked taking the children to the beach for outings and vacation time. One of the best adventures ever, was the family trip to Chicago in 2010. They were able to tour Soldier Field and attend some Cubs games. All ten of the family stayed in a B&B and made great memories.
Later in life, his favorite gathering places were O'Brien's and Maloney's Irish Pubs. He was known as Poker Mike at O'Brien's as he played poker every Thursday with some church friends as well as the priest. He was known as Pops at Maloney's.
He is survived by his children: Patrick Alan, Jeffrey Michael, and Daniel Edward; his grandchildren: Devin Christopher, Bailey Rose, Kinsley Michelle, and Paxton Parker. He was predeceased by his daughter, Amy Michelle.
A service for Michal will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home on Friday, August 9th, from 11:30 to 1:00.
