Mrs. Nelly Hekimian, age 81, of Tampa, FL, died December 9, 2011. She is survived by her husband and life-long sweetheart of 55 years, George; son, Raul; daughters, Silvia and Elizabeth; son-in-law Dan; and grandchildren Adrienne, Lauren, Cory, Kayla, and Elena. Nelly was an educator in Argentina.Nelly was passionate about being an educator and overcame many obstacles to achieve her career goals, receiving her Bachelor's degree from the University of Buenos Aires. She was persistent in learning English when moving to the USA and proudly became a US Citizen. She translated the Driver's Education book in the days when there were no bilingual versions and even taught English for the foreign speaking. Nelly won a writing competition sponsored by a radio station in New York City and was awarded one of the first portable TV's. She later worked as a successful real estate broker before retiring.
Nelly was even more passionate about her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, or, "Abuelita" as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren. (Each grandchild claims they were her favorite!) Nelly was very kind-hearted and fun-loving, with a smile for everyone. She always opened up her heart and home to family and friends, old and new. Everyone instantly loved her. Nelly enjoyed writing poetry, singing, tango dancing, and acquired an impressive collection of panda bear figurines and beanie babies. She will be greatly missed and always remembered.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 1-2 PMfollowed by a service at 2:00 PM at the chapel of MacDonald Funeral Home, 10520 North Florida Ave, Tampa. Interment to follow.
