Nidia Beatriz Torres de Hemm October 17 1933 - August 9 2017 of Tampa, was welcomed at the heavenly gates on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. She was born to Eudoro and Carmen Torres in 1933 in Panama City, Panama. Nidia loved to laugh and enjoyedbeing out and about. She was Chief Administrator for the National Fire Department of Panama and became the first female to achieve the rank of Major in Panama which she received high honors from the Mayor of Panama. Nidia contributed her heart and time to many charities and was President of the blood bank which saved many lives. She created an initiave for widowed spouses of volunteer firefighters to be able to have financial assistance. Loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and cousin. She is survived and will be missed by her sons, Antony and Angel; daughters, Connie and Pamela; and granddaughter, Harper; sister, Celia Garrett; numerous nieces and cousins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-6pm, at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 10520 N. Florida Ave., Tampa. A funeral Mass to celebrate Nidia's life will take place at 10 am, Thursday, August 17, at the St. Paul Catholic Church, Tampa.

Nidia Beatriz Torres de Hemm 17 de Octubre 1933 - 9 de Agosto de 2017 de Tampa, fue recibida en las puertas del cielo el miércoles 9 de agosto de 2017. Nació a Eudoro y Carmen Torres en 1933 en la Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá. A Nidia le encantaba reír y disfrutaba estar fuera. Fue Directora del Departamento Nacional de Bomberos de Panamá y se convirtió en la primera mujer en alcanzar el rango de Mayor en Panamá, recibiendo altos honores del Alcalde de Panamá. Nidia contribuyó con su corazón y tiempo a muchas organizaciones benéficas y fue presidente del banco de sangre que salvó muchas vidas. Ella creó una iniciativa para que los cónyuges viudos de bomberos voluntarios puedan tener ayuda financiera. Cariñosa esposa, madre devota, abuela, hija, hermana, tía y prima. Ella es sobrevivida y será extrañada por sus hijos, Antonio y Ángel; Hijas, Connie y Pamela; Y su nieta, Harper; Hermana, Celia Garrett; Numerosas sobrinas y primos. La familia recibirá amigos el miércoles de 4-6pm, en la Funeraria MacDonald, 10520 N. Florida Ave., Tampa. Una misa fúnebre para celebrar la vida de Nidia se llevará a cabo a las 10 am, jueves, 17 de agosto, en la Iglesia Católica St. Paul, Tampa.
