Robert L. Burgess, 83, beloved husband, grandfather and great grandfather, died peacefully at Pepin Heart Institute in Tampa, Florida on January 21, 2014. Robert ("Bob") and his wife of 61 years, Nancye, met while both were serving in the United States Air Force, Hamilton Air Force Base, California. Bob served his country faithfully for 23 years, including two terms in the Korean Conflict and four terms in the Vietnam War. His military career took him and his family to many military bases in the United States, as well as two foreign countries. He was a military man with a stanch belief in always being strong and firm, and to always go forward. Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother, William and Ethel Burgess and his brother, Allen Burgess. He is survived by his wife, Nancye, and two daughters, Karen (Randy) Randall and Sandra Fentress; and his sister Lillian Newhouse. Bob and Nancy have seven grandchildren;12 great grandchildren; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his extended family; and his wife and children will forever hold him dear. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m.,Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida with full military honors presented by MacDill Air Force Base Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or Wounded Warriors Project.
