IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert
Sutton
August 14, 1946 – January 20, 2023
Rob was born on August 14, 1946, in Wooster, Ohio, to Robert Sutton and Lois Sutton (nee Baker). Moving to Florida after high school, he graduated from the University of South Florida in 1971, with a degree in History.
After college, Rob honorably served in the U.S. Army for two years, as a Military Policeman. His experience in the MP corps sparked his interest in law enforcement. After his Army discharge, he was hired by the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC), Probation and Parole Services, as a State Probation Officer. During his time with the department, he attained the rank of Office Manager. He remained a dedicated servant to the people of the state of Florida until his retirement in 2001. He was known as "the man with the answers" when it came to department policies and procedures, and was well-respected by his peers for his knowledge, patience, kindness, and steadfast work ethic.
Rob's interest in American military history led him to become an avid militaria collector, and he enjoyed traveling to US military museums, battlefields, and installations, not only in the U.S., but in other countries. He closely followed Tampa Bay area sports teams (Buccaneers, Rays, and Lightning), and enjoyed attending their games whenever possible. He also enjoyed biking, walking, exercising, as well as travelling, both at home and abroad. Nothing, however, gave him more pleasure than spending time with his family and friends, including his beloved parrot daughter of 23 years, Ruby. Rob was well-known for his detailed stories of his time in the Army and DOC. He was a true American patriot in every sense of the word, and his love of country was unrivaled .
Rob is survived by his loving wife and daughter, Janice and Lauren, whom he consistently loved fully and unconditionally; his beautiful new granddaughter, Coraline, who blessed the last year of his life immeasurably; his stepson, Kenneth Pullin; his sisters Marjorie Garrett, and Judith Kinzie (Ed); and his six nephews: Philip, Thomas, Gregory, and Sean Garrett, Michael and Matthew Kinzie. He will live on in our hearts forever.
In lieu of lowers, please consider making a donation in Rob's memory to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA.
A funeral service will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home on Friday, February 3rd, at 10:30am. The family will receive visitors an hour prior, from 9:30am to 1030am.
