Rev. Russell C. Carter, 90, of Tampa relinquished his worldly body Friday to be with his Lord and his sweetheart, Barbara. Rev. Carter served as a bombardier in the US Navy during WWII. He devoted his adult life to his Lord as an ordained southern Baptist minister; his wife, Barbara Jean, as a loving husband; and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as a wonderful example of a strong Christian man. Rev Carter provided ministry services in Bellingham, WA before returning to Florida to minister in his hometown of Jacksonville, followed by Clermont, and finally Tampa. His dedication to his church members and visitors alike was always forefront and his focus was to spread the word of God in a pure form, leading those who attended closer to Christ our Savior. He retired from the ministry November 1, 2010 after 63 years of service to attend to his wife during her final years. Pastor Carter passed peacefully in his home. He is survived by a brother, Arthur Carter of Seffner, three children,Jean Sinnett of Winter Haven, Bob Carter of Winter Haven, and Jim Carter of Tampa; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, Jan 18th at Sheldon Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions in memory of Rev. Carter to the Sheldon Road Baptist Church.
