Obituary

Sherrard L. Hayes, M.D. (Sherry to family and friends), 76 passed away at home, on April 10, 2018 in Tampa, FL due to complications of Multiple System Atrophy. Born on July 31,1941 in Ft. Pierce, FL to M. Kirby Hayes and Lucile Eubank Hayes, he was a proud fifth generation Floridian on both sides. He graduated in 1959 from Dan McCarty HS, attended the University of Florida and graduated from its medical school in 1966. He was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society. He completed his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, a year of residency and a year as chief resident at the University of California (San Francisco) and 2 years at the NIH in Bethesda. For five and ½ years he was an assistant professor of medicine and pharmacology at the University of Miami School of Medicine but he missed the one on one relationships with patients so in 1979 he returned to Ft Pierce where he established an Internal Medicine Practice until 2010 when he retired. During that time he was Medical Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Board at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center. In 2012 he and his wife Pam moved to Tampa to be closer to family.

He will be remembered for his enormous sense of humor, intelligence, keen wit, love of fishing, hunting and the Florida Gators; but mostly, for his love of family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Pamela Boerner Hayes of 43 and ½ years; son Sherrard L. Hayes, Jr. (Butch) (Diane) of Austin, TX; daughter Karen Moran of Nashville, TN; step-daughters Dr. Kimberley Daxon (Pat) and Keri Munkwitz (Don) both of Tampa, FL; nine remarkable grandchildren, Braden, Kirby, Katie, Sara, Claire, Michael, Grace, Lilly, and Ella Kate.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Ft. Pierce, FL on June 16 from 4 to 6 at the Pelican Yacht Club, 1120 Seaway Dr. At 4:30 there will be testimonials. Casual orange and blue attire is requested but not mandatory.

Special thanks and gratitude are given to LifePath Hospice especially to his caregiver Marie and his nurse Suzana, angels from Heaven.
