Shirley (Sher) Roesner passed away December 20, 2020 at the age of 69 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born December 31, 1950 in Chicago and grew up in Argo, Illinois. She was mischievous and clever as a child, bold and daring as a young woman, and adventurous and philanthropic throughout her life. She married Michael in 1975 and together they set off for a globe-trotting journey as Mike's military career took them to Turkey, Panama, and across the United States, before they made Florida their home. Sher earned her B.A. in Accounting and ran a very successful business of her own for many years.
Sher was very dynamic in her interests. She especially loved the outdoors. Camping, birdwatching, skydiving, boating, beachcombing, and scuba diving were just a few of her favorite pastimes. Travel was a big part of her life. She was always planning the next trip to some new and exciting foreign destination. She especially loved exploring Greece, Italy, and Germany, where she immersed herself in the local culture and history.
As much of an adventure seeker as she was, Sher also enjoyed the simpler things in life. She loved to spend time at the beach and could often be found on a beach chair with a Pina Colada in one hand, and a good book in the other. She practiced yoga and found a love for the arts working with stained glass. She had a strong love for animals and deep empathy for those less fortunate. Sher's altruistic nature was evident in the many hours she volunteered for animal shelters and homeless charities. Generosity and thoughtfulness hallmarked her personality.
Sher is survived by loving husband Michael, son Erik and his wife Joy, granddaughters Chloe and Sophie, brother Timothy (Mel) Rubel, sister Tina Haley, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Rubel and Josephine Jarosik.
A private family gathering will be held in Sher's honor. If you would like to share your memories or condolences, please feel free to add your contributions to this memorial page. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sher's honor toMoffitt Cancer Centerare appreciated.
