Sylvia Romero, 75, of Wesley Chapel, FL formerly of Bay Shore, New York passed away on April 21, 2014. She was born in Havana, Cuba and moved to New York in 1957. Sylvia worked for the Bay Shore Public Schools where she was a teacher assistant and later in life was a Sales Executive for Sears Roebuck & Co. She was of the Catholic faith and a founder of the Catholic Youth Organization at St Patrick's School in Bay Shore. She enjoyed sports and was an avid bowler, volleyball coach and softball coach.She was a former Olympic Volleyball player in Cuba in the 1950's. She was an umpire and devoted coach for many years in Bay Shore, New York Little League. Sylvia is survived by husband, Joseph Romero of Wesley Chapel formerly of Bay Shore, New York; sister, Gloria Crespo of Wesley Chapel, Fl.; children, Debbie (Paul) Bucking, Lindenhurst, New York Robert (Amy) O'Connell, Babylon, New York, William O'Connell, Bay Shore, New York, Paul O'Connell, Bay Shore, New York, Maureen Lavacca (Rich), Bay Shore, New York, Jennifer O'Connell, New York, New York; Beloved grandmother of 9 grandchildren: Paul Michael, Lauren, Colin, Emily, Ryan, Anna, Lucas, Cooper and Carter; Beloved Aunt of Wilfredo Sosa, Wesley Chapel, Fla. A memorial service and burial will take place in Bay Shore, New York at a later date.
